Major! Movie

Description

This is the story of one woman’s journey, a community’s history, and how caring for each
other can be a revolutionary act.

2026 marks the first Pride season since the passing of trans trailblazer Miss Major Griffin-Gracy. Join us in celebrating her legacy with a special screening of the award-winning documentary, Major! After the screening, local trans advocates will share their stories in an exclusive panel moderated by trans rights advocate and digital storyteller Lee Wade, the host of WYSO's Translucent.

Rainbow Reels is DML's curated series of LGBTQIA+ film screenings. More than a movie, these events offer our community the chance to create critical connections.

The Center for Community Impact & Innovation at DML is proud to partner with WYSO for this event.

NCB150: This event is part of DML's series of programs honoring Natalie Clifford Barney's sesquicentennial. Join us in celebrating the artistic and literary legacy of a local legend.

DML welcomes everyone to our programs. If you have questions or need any accommodations, please contact us so we can help make the program a good experience for you.

Heightened Scrutiny ~RAINBOW REELS~

APRIL 18, 2026

2:00 PM – 4:30 PM

LOCATION CHANGE:

West Carrollton Branch

Dayton Metro Library

Description

How does media shape our laws---and our lives?

Join us for this exclusive screening of an award-winning film, followed by a Q&A with director Sam Feder.

HEIGHTENED SCRUTINY follows Chase Strangio, ACLU attorney and the first out trans person to argue before the Supreme Court, as he fights a high-stakes legal battle to overturn Tennessee’s ban on gender-affirming care for transgender youth (United States v. Skrmetti).

The film exposes the dangerous role of mainstream media in fueling anti-trans legislation, uncovering how biased coverage drives hate, endangers lives, and threatens democracy itself. With insights from journalists like Jelani Cobb, Lydia Polgreen, and Gina Chua, and activists like Laverne Cox, the story dismantles anti-trans disinformation and highlights its devastating real-world impact.

With the dangerous SCOTUS decision upholding the ban on life-saving healthcare, HEIGHTENED SCRUTINY is an urgent call to action against bigotry and injustice.

Rainbow Reels is DML's curated series of LGBTQIA+ film screenings. More than a movie, these events offer our community the chance to create critical connections.

The Center for Community Impact & Innovation at DML is proud to partner with PFLAG Dayton for this event.
